Industrial safety eyewear differs from normal sunglasses or spectacles. Instead of acrylic or glass, the material used for eye protection is thick polycarbonate. Polycarbonate is known for high impact strength and it will not burst into pieces or shatter if an object dashes against it. The design of spectacles used for safety purposes in industrial environment differs, apart from the choice of materials. The polycarbonate front is usually of wrap around design to offer protection from the front as well as from the sides. The frame to which the polycarbonate front lens is attached is designed to provide a comfortable and snug fit. In ideal conditions the safety eyewear should not slip offis the wearer bends his head as would happen with normal eyewear.
However, despite care take in design and manufacture, it happens that due to wear and tear or careless handling the eyewear may slip off and land smack in the middle or machinery that is running or in a chemical bath. This is doubly dangerous. One, eyes of the wearer are not protected and at this moment flying shards of the broken eyewear can cause damage to the eyes. If it falls into a chemical bath the splash could land right in the eyes. How does one ensure that even if the safety eyewear slips off it does not fall into running equipment or chemical baths? The solution is simple. Ideally an employee should be presented the safety spectacles along with the cord and pouch as a set and instructed to tie the cord at once and keep it attached to the spectacles at all times as well as store the eyewear in the pouch when not in use.
